Remarks:

  1. No late homework.
We will not give any make up test, unless you have a doctor's note.
  2. Expect me to cover three sections in each week.
  3. I will provide some online notes. You are supposed to read the notes before you come to the class.
You are expected learn to write proofs of every theorem and the examples.
Examples are important, because the author took (stole) all the best examples in the literature.
  4. In class, I will only give a overview of what is in the notes. Depending on time, I will go through some of the examples and exercises.
  5. We will do some hardcore modern algebra. We do not provide excuses (motivation from real life) why we do modern algebra. However, seeking motivations within mathematics may be a good idea. How modern algebra relates to other branches of mathematics and what is its place within mathematics are good questions to think about.
  6. There is only one way to learn mathematics, that is by solving plenty of exercises and writing proofs of any statements we (yourself or me) make. Role of the instructor, at this level, is to guide and give exposer to variety of topics. It is true that some instructors are more inspirational (or entertaining) than others (or appear so). However, at this level either you learn or did not learn. At your age group, life will get busy, this may be the last opportunity to visit this material.
